The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Health Directorate has organized a stakeholders meeting in response to the outbreak of polio at the Municipal Assembly hall.
Speaking at the meeting, the Municipal Director of Health Services for Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) Dr. Esther Priscilla Biamah Danquah explained that, polio is a disease of filth that is spread through contaminated food and water. She further explained that, there are new cases or outbreaks of polio that needs rapid response across the country.
Dr. Danquah stressed that, the immunization exercise that will commerce from 1st to 4th September, 2022 across the Municipality aims at raising population immunity against polio virus type 2. She emphasised that, children under 5years in Kpone-Katamanso Municipality will be immunized with the novel vaccine type 2. She added that her outfit has targeted about 28,300 children for the exercise.
Dr. Danquah called on care givers, chiefs, Assembly members, heads of both public and private schools, development partners and all stakeholders to assist in getting the message across to indigenes. She encouraged people who do not want their children to be immunized based on their cultural and religious beliefs to desist from such acts since the polio vaccine is very effective, safe and free. Dr. Danquah further emphasised on some strategies which include moving from house to house, visiting markets, mosques and churches by the health workers.
On his part, deputy director, Mr. Kenneth Nkrumah Daniels; emphasised that, the upcoming immunization exercise is an important national assignment that borders on the health of children. He therefore assured the Municipal Health Directorate that, the Assembly will assist by providing all the needed logistics to make the exercise a successful one. He encouraged all especially men to ensure that their children who are between 0-59 months participate in the immunization exercise.
