According to the project director, the development is intended to be a recreational center aimed at boosting tourism and economic activities in the area. However, several residents have expressed worry, citing potential environmental and ecological threats.

Community members have raised alarm over the filling of the natural lagoon with soil and other materials, fearing that such activities could block natural drainage channels, potentially resulting in severe flooding and other ecosystem disruptions.

Further investigations have revealed that the ownership and permitting process for the project remain contentious. Reports indicate that the owner of the site did not acquire the land and necessary permits from the Kpone authorities, under whose jurisdiction Akanpu-Miroc legally falls. Instead, the permits were allegedly obtained from Ningo-Prampram,District Assembly which has sparked questions regarding land ownership rights and administrative oversight.

Authorities have assured residents that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain the legality of the project and ensure that all environmental, legal, and jurisdictional regulations are adhered to.

The Kpone- Katamanso Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other relevant bodies, are expected to review the project documentation and engage all stakeholders to address residents’ concerns and safeguard the natural environment.

The visit by the Greater Accra Regional Minister and government officials highlights the growing importance of environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance in infrastructural development. The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly has pledged to work closely with all parties involved to ensure that the project proceeds in accordance with the law while protecting the rights of the community and the environment.
