PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY COMMITTEE MEETING ON MPOX OUTBREAK.

The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Health Directorate on Tuesday 19th August, 2025, as part of efforts to curb the outbreak of MPOX in the Municipality convened an emergency meeting with stakeholders to discuss the outbreak, what has been done and the way forward.

In attendance was Hon. Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who doubles as the chairperson of the health committee, Mr. Ali Amadu Mohammed, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Dr. Esther P.B. Danquah, the Municipal Health Director (MHDS) and other stakeholders on health in the Municipality.

Dr.Esther P.B. Danquah, the director of health in the Municipality in her presentation elaborated on what qualifies to be Mpox, symptoms of mpox, which includes; fever usually higher than 39 degrees Celsius, chills, severe headache, general weakness, body pains and sore throat.

She said all health facilities in the Municipality are on high alert, with instructions to prepare PPEs and set up isolation rooms. The health directorate is also raising awareness about mpox—its symptoms, the need to seek medical care, and how to prevent its spread—through radio programs, church visits, and community and school outreach.

She also gave mpox situational update in the Municipality, according to her, the Municipality has recorded fifty-four(54) total suspected cases, three(3) total confirmed cases in the District, five(5) confirmed cases transferred into the district, zero(0) total new cases, zero(0) on admission and zero(0) total death as of  19th August 2025.

She said that all health facilities in the Municipality are on high alert and have been asked to get PPEs ready and prepare isolation rooms. The health directorate is also educating the public about the importance of going to health facilities, the signs and symptoms of mpox, and how to prevent its spread through radio talks, church visits, and meetings with schools and community groups.

In the closing remarks of the Hon. Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), he admonished everyone to take care of themselves by adhering to the preventive protocols and take it upon themselves to educate others in the Municipality.
