On Friday, 17th July 2026, the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), organized a relief distribution exercise on behalf of the Government of Ghana for residents affected by the recent floods that occurred on 29th June 2026.
The event was held at the forecourt of the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly and brought together the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Samuel T.K. Morton, and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpone Katamanso Constituency, Hon. Joseph Akuerteh, and the Director of NADMO for KKMA, Mr. Abraham Nartey Tetteh, Assembly Members, staff of KKMA and beneficiaries.

The Government through NADMO has supported affected households to recover from the devastating floods by providing them with relief items. Items distributed included mattresses, bags of rice, cooking oil, buckets, clothes, bowls, plates, cups, and other essential household items.

In his remarks, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Samuel T.K. Morton, expressed appreciation to the Government for its timely intervention and commitment to supporting residents affected by the disaster. He encouraged beneficiaries to make good use of the items received and assured them of the Assembly’s continuous support in promoting the welfare of residents.

The Director of NADMO, Mr. Abraham Nartey Tetteh, reiterated NADMO’s commitment to disaster preparedness and response. He advised residents to remain vigilant during the rainy season, keep their surroundings clean, avoid indiscriminate disposal of waste into drains, and comply with planning regulations to minimize the occurrence and impact of flooding.

The Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso Constituency, Hon. Joseph Akuerteh, stated that the relief exercise formed part of the Government’s efforts to ease the burden on families affected by the floods. He also highlighted ongoing government measures aimed at reducing the impact of future flooding, including intensified public education, community clean-up exercises, and stricter enforcement of planning regulations to discourage the construction of buildings on waterways and other unauthorized locations.

The programme ended with the successful presentation and distribution of the relief items to the beneficiaries, who expressed gratitude to the Government, NADMO, and the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly for their support during this difficult period.
