Hon. Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) has led residents, Assembly members, staff and various stakeholders in the National sanitation day exercise in Kpone.
The National sanitation day aimed at promoting cleanliness and improving environmental hygiene brought together community members to sweep, desilt drains, clear refuse dumps and weed public spaces.
The sanitation day exercise also forms part of the Assembly’s efforts to improve waste management and promote healthy living among residents.
Addressing participants after the exercise, Hon. Morton advised residents to take the national sanitation day initiative seriously, stressing that maintaining a clean environment was a shared responsibility. He noted that both the government and the Assembly spend huge amounts of money every year to improve sanitation within the Municipality and therefore urged residents to play their part by adopting and maintaining good sanitation practices at home and in their communities.
Hon. Morton emphasized our collective responsibility as citizens to achieve a clean environment. He further cautioned that individuals who flouted the municipal sanitation by-laws would be dealt with according to the law, adding that the assembly would not hesitate to sanction anyone found dumping refuse indiscriminately or engaging in acts that endanger public health. He also commended the environmental health officers, assembly members and youth groups for their active involvement clean-up exercise and encouraged them to sustain the momentum to make Kpone-Katamanso one of the cleanest municipalities in the Greater Accra Region.
