The Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly has intensified the monthly national sanitation day exercise to ensure improved environmental cleanliness across communities in the municipality.
The exercise, which forms part of the nationwide sanitation campaign, was held at the Katamansu Electoral Area within the municipality and attracted residents, traditional authorities, and various stakeholders.
Mr. Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA), said the Assembly had intensified the sanitation exercise to ensure that the entire municipality was kept clean and healthy.
He urged stakeholders, particularly assembly members and community leaders, to ensure that residents actively participated in the monthly sanitation exercise.
Mr. Morton also hinted that sanitation by-laws within the municipality would be strictly enforced, warning that offenders would be prosecuted to ensure full compliance.
‘We will not hesitate to apply the law where necessary because maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility’ he said.
The MCE later expressed gratitude to residents and stakeholders for their massive participation in the exercise and called for similar commitment in other electoral areas across the municipality.
Mr. George Freeman, Municipal Environmental Health Officer (MEHO) for the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly, said the monthly sanitation exercise would help reduce sanitation challenges confronting various communities.
He explained that the municipality had come of age and sanitation issues must be given the needed attention to ensure a healthy environment for residents.
Mr. Freeman stressed that proper sanitation should be treated as a shared responsibility and not be left solely in the hands of perceived leaders.
The Katamansu sanitation exercise saw the participation of personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service, students, staff of the Municipal Assembly, residents, unit committee members, and assembly members who joined hands to desilt gutters, clear refuse dumps, and tidy public spaces within the electoral area.
