The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July 2026 joined the rest of the country to observe the two-day National General cleaning exercise as directed by the President.
The cleaning up exercise was held under the theme “Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana after the floods”. The two- day nationwide exercise follows the devasting June 29th floods and aims to clear debris, desilt drains and waterways, improve sanitation and help restore affected communities.

Speaking on the Ghana Navy’s involvement the Ag Naval Commander, Commander Ben Bada Abdul said the Naval Headquarters had deployed more than 300 personnel alongside essential logistics, including waste collection vehicle, tipper trucks, wheelbarrows, brooms, rakes and other sanitation tools to ensure effective operations at KKMA. He expressed his appreciation to the Assembly and the community for their support and massive participation.

The exercise saw active participation from Assembly members, staff of KKMA, security services, waste management firms, volunteers, Unit committee members, residents, private companies and government institutions within the Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for KKMA, Hon. Samuel T.K Morton in a brief remark noted that “Ghanaians were severely affected by the recent flood situation that destroyed homes and properties and have seen the need to clean-up”. Hon. Morton added that the clean-up campaign demonstrates the importance of collective action stressing that clean communities are essential to preventing floods and spread of diseases.

Key activities carried out during the exercise included sweeping of streets and public places, collection and disposal of solid waste, desilting of drains and gutters, clearing of over grown weeds and public education on sanitation and hygiene practices. There was significant improvement in environmental cleanliness, removal of large quantities of waste from public spaces and improved drainage flow in desilted gutters.

In conclusion, the two-day National clean-up exercise at KKMA was largely successful and demonstrated the importance of collective effort in maintaining a clean environment. The Member of Parliament for Kpone Hon. Joseph Akueteh Tettey and Her Excellency; Cynthia Naa Komley Morrison, Member of Council of State for Kpone participated in the general clean-up exercise.
