The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) observed the National Sanitation Day on October 4, 2025, with a clean-up exercise held at Ashaiman Timber Market Roundabout and the Tulaku Kraal.
The exercise saw active participation from traditional leaders, traders, business owners, heads of departments, assembly members, and government appointees, all working together to promote environmental cleanliness.

Mr. George Freeman, the Municipal Environmental Health Director, explained that the National Sanitation Day is a government initiative aimed at restoring discipline and promoting cleanliness in public spaces. He noted that sanitation has become a key performance indicator (KPI) for all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), and emphasized that such clean-up exercises will continue to take place on the first Saturday of every month to encourage broader citizen involvement.
Before the commencement of the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel T. K. Morton, highlighted that maintaining proper sanitation is a shared responsibility and crucial to keeping the environment clean and free from pests and diseases. He expressed his gratitude to residents and community members for their participation and stated his optimism that the exercise would have a lasting impact across communities in the municipality by helping to prevent epidemics and communicable diseases.

Many participants called for increased public education and awareness about the National Sanitation Day initiative to boost participation in future exercises.

Activities carried out during the day included desilting of drains, sweeping of streets, and removal of refuse heaps. Following the exercise, Hon. Morton and his delegation presented assorted drinks to the leaders of the Tulaku Kraal in appreciation of their support and involvement.
