Hon. Samuel T. K. Morton; the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) between 3rd September to 20th Octo, 2025 commenced community engagements with stakeholders and residents within the Municipality.
Hon. Morton was accompanied by the presiding member, Hon. George Nuetey Ahingwah, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) and some selected heads of department.
The MCE and his entourage engaged residents in all the eighteen (18) electoral areas across the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality.
According to Hon. Morton, the community engagements serves as a means of bringing governance to the doorsteps of constituents. It also gives the Municipal Chief Executive the opportunity to get closer to listen attentively to the concerns of residents as well as account for his stewardship. Hon. Morton added that the purpose of the community engagement was also to directly engage key stakeholders to access developmental needs and strengthen collaboration for accelerated progress.
Hon. Morton used the opportunity to outline his vision for constituents with a focus on infrastructure development, improved educational and health systems, construction of principal roads, job creation and enhanced community participation in local governance.
Issues raised
Residents were given the opportunity to ask questions, raise issues and offer constructive suggestions for the development of the Municipality. All questions and issues raised were duly addressed and clarified to the satisfaction of community members.
Prominent concerns raised by members of the community visited included high rate of youth unemployment, deplorable nature of the road network, inadequate health facilities, flooding, absence of streetlights, armed robbery, security, limited access to potable drinking water, sanitation challenges, among others.
Response
Reacting to the issues raised by residents during the community engagements, Hon. Morton encouraged residents to take advantage of the employment opportunities such as youth in agriculture, master artisanship and national apprenticeship brought on board by the Mahama administration. He also advised the youth to learn a trade or go into entrepreneurship in order to reduce social vices such as prostitution, armed robbery and drug abuse.
Touching on security the concerns, Hon. Morton said not less than 5,000 streetlights would be supplied to all the electoral areas under the “ Let’s light up the streets” project. He assured residents that the initiative would go a long way to reduce the high rate of robbery cases in the early and late hours of the day. The MCE also advised residents to form community neighborhood watchdogs to protect their lives and properties.
On the issue of limited access to potable drinking water, the Hon. MCE noted that plans were far advance to extend water services lines to the various communities.
Speaking on the provision of infrastructure, Hon. Morton charged chiefs and landowners to provide lands for the building of more schools, markets, hospitals, and recreation centers.
Hon. Morton admonished residents to embrace the national sanitation day initiative to curb the sanitation challenges in the municipality. He entreated residents to participate in the clean-up exercise every first Saturday of the month to assist keep their communities clean at all times.
Hon. MCE stated that he would consult all relevant stakeholders to assist to construct roads across the Municipality. He also promised to construct drains across the Municipality to curb the incidence of flooding.
The community engagements were well attended by leaders of Landlords Association, market women, unit committee members, chiefs, queen mothers, traditional leaders, assembly members and youth groups.
The MCE and his entourage were warmly welcome by residents in all the electoral areas visited. They interacted with chiefs, queen mothers, and opinion leaders who promised their unflinching support towards peace and development in the Municipality. The MCE’s community engagement ended successfully on 20th October, 2025.
