The Kpone-Katamanso HIV/AIDS Committee in their quest to create awareness on HIV/AIDS disease, a sensitization campaign was carried out at Obonu FM within the Municipality.
2.0 MODE OF SENSITIZATION
A five-member team led by Emelia Ofori Agyemang, a Principal Nursing Officer of Kpone Health Directorate gave extensive education on the mode of transmission, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS She mentioned a list of transmission modes as well as preventive measures.
3.0 OBSERVATIONS
3.1 Content of the Programme
The Resource Persons who led the discussion were well versed in the subject matter and were able to explain the issues properly to listeners who call in with questions.
3.3 The Reality of the Disease Versus Superstition
From the kind of questions that came through from listeners, it indicated that unlike many years ago when people attached the spread of the disease to curses and other superstitious beliefs, listeners who called in during the programme were aware that HIV/AIDS is a medical condition which requires medical attention.
With this at knowledge, the people were more receptive to the content of the sensitization event.
4.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
Having observed the content, the quality of resource persons and the readiness of the participants, the following recommendations are hereby being made for the consideration of management.
- Frequency of Sensitization Programme
From the above observation made, we suggest that such sensitisation programmes should be organised regularly to ensure that they are fully educated on what HIV/AIDS entails in order to prevent the further spread of disease.
5.0 CONCLUSION
The programme was a colossal success and all these were achieved through a concerted effort of management, resource persons and the participants. The co-operation between the resource persons and the participants were phenomenal and worth commending.
