On 3rd December 2025, a high level delegation from Canada and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) handed over a tractor and its accessories, three power tillers and five planters to the Michel Camp Farmers Association at Kpone-Katamanso.

The delegation included the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency, Myriam Montrat, the Hon. Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. Eric Opoku and the Municipal Chief Executive for Kpone-Katamanso, Hon Samuel T. K. Morton and the Greater Accra Regional Director of Agriculture.

The Michel Camp Farmers Association is a fully registered group and that has distinguished itself as a model for women’s farmer organization in Ghana, demonstrating strong leadership, organization, and commitment to modernizing agriculture.
The donation which was made possible through Canada’s support in partnership with MoFA-Ghana, is a significant intervention aimed at enhancing mechanized farming, boosting productivity, reducing drudgery, and empowering women farmers within the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality and beyond.

Addressing the members of the Michel Camp Farmers Association before officially handing over the equipment, Mr. Eric Opoku said agriculture is the backbone of the Ghanaian economy. He quoted an agronomist from India, “When agriculture goes wrong, nothing else will have the chance to go right” Mr. Opoku explained that agriculture and food is expedient for the growth of the nation. He stressed that Ghana is currently faced the challenge of her inability to produce more to feed the entire country. This he said has resulted in the spending more resources on the importation of food to supplement local production.

Mr. Opoku noted that if the country is able to produce sufficiently locally, employment opportunities would be created for millions of our unemployed youth. He added that the gesture was aimed at empowering farmers at Michel Camp to produce food to sufficiently feed Ghanaians and our agro processing industries.
- E. Myriam Montrat, said the equipment are tools for the empowerment of the women farmers. She said the equipment will allow the farmers to expand production, reduce fatigue, strengthened their role in agri- business and secure a better livelihood for their families and communities. She emphasized that Canada is always happy to collaborate with Ghana to advance shared priorities. H. E. Montrat stated that her country is proud to contribute to Ghana’s vision for exclusive growth and food security. She added that investing in women farmer’s, means investing in families, in communities and in Ghana’s future.

Hon Morton expressed his deep appreciation to the delegation for the equipment and promised that maintenance and the intended purpose of the equipment would be the priority of the Kpone-Katamaso Municipal Assembly. He highlighted that the equipment will go a long way to make the government’s agenda, “Feed Ghana” a reality. Hon. Morton pleaded with the farmers to take good care of the equipment.
