Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council under the directive of the Regional Minister, Hon. Henry Quartey instructed all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra Region to embark on a massive clean-up exercise on Thursday, the 25th day of August, 2022.
The purpose of the exercise was to aid in sustaining a clean and green environment under the Operation Clean Your Frontage Agenda.
The Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana workers at the Assembly as well as other community stakeholders converged at three Zonal offices named; Kpone, KAMBERG and Zekkas as early as 7:00am on Thursday. At their respective Zonal Councils, Environmental Health Officers led the Zoomlion workers to clean the major streets within those areas.
At Kpone barrier, MTN junction towards Kpone cemetery stretch was thoroughly cleaned by those within the Kpone Zonal Council. At KAMSBERG, the exercise was executed from yellow signboard junction through Michel Camp frontage to Kakasunaka No1 junction. At ZEKKAS, the exercise commenced from the Zenu market to Atadeka station.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Samuel Okoe Amanquah after participating in the Kpone clean-up activity thanked participants for a good work done and assured them that the Assembly would take more stringent measures to prevent indiscriminate disposal of solid waste by community members and other road users like the tricycles operators. He also urged the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit to intensify the prosecution of recalcitrant persons who violate sanitation laws in the Municipality.
