As part of efforts to promote economic empowerment, self – reliance and social inclusion among Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly organized a distribution exercise to provide beneficiaries with various start-up items to enable them establish and expand small-scale businesses. The initiative forms part of measures aimed at improving the livelihoods of PWDs and reducing their dependency on external support.
The exercise, which was held 17th June 2026, brought together beneficiaries, community leaders, representatives of relevant institutions and stakeholders committed to the disability inclusion and economic development.
Objective;
- Empower Persons with Disabilities economically through entrepreneurship.
- Provide start-up tools and equipment to support income-generating activities.
- Enhance financial independence and improve the living conditions of beneficiaries.
- Promote social inclusion and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
- Encourage self-employment and reduce unemployment among PWDs.
Activities Undertaken;
The program commenced with an opening session during which participants were welcomed and briefed on the purpose of the intervention by the Social Services chairperson, Hon. Regina Dede Amanquah and chairperson for Disability Fund Management Mr Joshua Addy.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Morton emphasized the importance of beneficiaries utilizing the items effectively to establish sustainable businesses.
Following the briefing, beneficiaries were identified and verified before the distribution of items. The items distributed included equipment and materials suited to the beneficiaries chosen business ventures and vocational skills. Beneficiaries acknowledged receipted of the items by signing the necessary documentations.
Guidance was also provided on proper utilization, maintenance and management of items to ensure long-term sustainability of businesses.
Items Distributed;
The items distributed included various business support materials and equipment such as;
- Poly Tanks
- Deep Freezers
- Fufu Pounding Machine
- Bags of Charcoal
- Display Fridges
- Drum sets
- Baking Ovens
- Industrial Sewing Machine
Beneficiaries;
A total number of 61 Persons With Disabilities benefited from the program. The beneficiaries were selected based on established criteria including demonstrated need, commitment to entrepreneurship and readiness to engage in small-scale business activities.
Response from Beneficiaries;
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the government and organizers for the support provided. Many indicated that the items received would significantly enhance their ability to generate income and support their families.
Some beneficiaries shared testimonies on how the intervention would help them expand existing businesses, while others stated that, it would provide them with opportunity to start new ventures and become financially independent.
Challenges;
The exercise was generally successful. However few challenges encountered includes;
- Transportation difficulties for some beneficiaries.
- High demand for support compared to available resources.
Despite these challenges, the program achieved its intended objectives.
Conclusion;
The distribution of start-up items to Persons With Disabilities was successfully conducted and served as an important step towards promoting economic empowerment and self-sufficiency among beneficiaries. The initiative is expected to contribute positively to poverty reduction, social inclusion and improved livelihoods for PWDs.
It is recommended that periodic monitoring and business support be provided to beneficiaries to ensure effective utilization of the items and sustainability of their enterprises.
