TWO DAYS CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP FOR ZONAL COUNCIL AND UNIT COMMITTEE MEMBERS BY KKMA.

The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) on Wednesday 13th – Thursday 14th May, 2026, held a successful strategic capacity building workshop at the Assembly Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen participation, promote accountability and enhance local governance practices within the Municipality.

The capacity building workshop brought together Zonal Council and Unit Committee members from all electoral areas of the Assembly. The workshop forms part of efforts of the Municipal Chief Executive together with management of Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly to equip members of the sub-structure of local government to be effective and efficient, enhance participation, collaboration and accountability.

CROSS-SECTION OF PARTICIPANTS

Hon. Samuel T. K. Morton, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in an address, underscored the importance of the workshop as a gesture to equip both Zonal Council and Unit Committee members with new skills in the governance process.

He noted the dynamism and rapid change in law and best practices in governance and assured participant that such trainings would be organised yearly or bi-annually to keep participants abreast with changes in the Local governance process.

Mr. Mohammed Ali Adams, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) encouraged participants to take the training seriously since it would go a long way in shaping the way they discharge their duties and  how they relate with residents and the Assembly going forward. He reiterated his willingness to work with them to make the Assembly a better place.

Mr. Jonathan Azasoo, Executive Director of ZIM MULTI CONSULT and a resource person, noted that the workshop focused on deepening participants’ knowledge of local governance structures, their constitutional mandates and their role in strengthening transparency and accountability at the community level. He elaborated on the vital roles played by Zonal Council and Unit Committee Members within the local government system. He reiterated that although their work is voluntary, their responsibilities are critical to community mobilization, revenue sensitization, data support and bridging communication between citizens and their elected Assembly Members.

Participants expressed their profound appreciation to leadership of the Assembly for organizing such insightful training workshop.

The session were highly informative, engaging and impactful, providing participant with valuable knowledge and practical skills that will contribute greatly to their work in their respective communities. They thanked management for the opportunity to learn, interact and broaden their perspective on governance through this initiative.
