Mrs Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo Greater Accra Regional Minister has issued a decisive order to a developer and other persons encroaching on the Kpone Laaloi Lagoon to restore the encroached site back to its natural status.
The minister made this remark in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Akampoo in Kpone where some developers has filled portions of the lagoon with laterites ready to be used for private architectural projects.
Mrs Ocloo hinted that, developers could not do certain things on their own merits and later create problems for the masses, adding that the developers were filling part of the lagoon for recreational purposes a situation she said was uncalled for.
She directed that, the developers would have to scoop every artificial material used to fill the said portion of the lagoon at their own cost staring from Monday 25 August 2025.
Mr Ocloo further added that, developers must do due diligence before they invest their hard earn investments into buying an unauthorized lands for their developmental projects saying her office would not allow such activities within the jurisdiction.
‘I have instructed the developers to report to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) whilst we make efforts to meet with the traditional authorities on the way forward’ she intimated.
Mr Samuel Tetteh Kwashie Morton, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Kpone -Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) expressed gratitude to the Regional minister and her team for the timely intervention.
Mr Morton mentioned that the Kpone- Katamanso municipality have been clearly defined and encroachers must tread cautiously in dealing with local authorities when it has to do with issuance of permit for developmental projects.
He Said it would be ridiculous for developers to get permits from other local authorities and then execute the said projects in another person’s jurisdiction saying that the long-standing boundary disputes between Kpone and Prampram should be resolved and promote peaceful co existing between the two indigenous towns.
The Kpone Katamanso MCE mentioned that the municipal Assembly would work with all stakeholders and ensure Kpone -Katamanso becomes a model constituency within the Greater Accra Region.
The Ghana News Agency Observed that teams from the National Security, the Ghana Armed Forces, (GAF) National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), amongst other important state security agencies thronged the encroached lagoon site in Kpone on Sunday to help bring order to the area.
