Background
The Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program aims to reduce poverty and promote social protection among vulnerable populations. As part of the program’s efforts to ensure effective implementation, a reassessment training was conducted for community focal persons.
Objective
The objective of the training was to equip community focal persons with the necessary skills and knowledge to support the reassessment team and other key stakeholders to accurately reassess beneficiary households and ensure the program’s continued effectiveness.
Methodology
The training employed a participatory approach, combining group discussions, and practical exercises. A total of eighteen (18) community focal persons from twenty-three (23) communities participated in the training.
Training Content
The training covered the following topics:
- LEAP program overview: Review of the program’s objectives, target groups, and benefits.
- The LEAP Reassessment Strategy: Step-by-step guide on how to reassess beneficiary households, including community verification and validation.
- Eligibility criteria: Clarification on the eligibility criteria for LEAP benefits, including household composition, income, and vulnerability.
Outcomes
The training achieved the following outcomes:
- Improved understanding: Community focal persons demonstrated a better understanding of the LEAP program, reassessment procedures, and eligibility criteria.
- Increased confidence: Community focal persons expressed increased confidence in their ability to help other team members to accurately reassess beneficiary households.
- LEAP households- straining: Households to Remain, Graduate and Exit.
Recommendations
To ensure the sustainability of the training’s impact:
1.Regular refresher training: Conduct regular refresher training to reinforce learning and address emerging challenges.
2.Ongoing support: Provide ongoing support to community focal persons to ensure they apply their new skills effectively.
3.A switch from e-switch cash transfer to mobile money transfer for convenience sake.
4.An increased on the grant amount to households due to high cost of living.
3.Monitoring and evaluation: Regularly monitor and evaluate the reassessment process to identify areas for improvement.
Conclusion
The LEAP reassessment training for community focal persons was a success, equipping participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to accurately reassess beneficiary households. With ongoing support, the training’s impact is expected to contribute to the program’s overall effectiveness in reducing poverty and promoting social protection.
