INTRODUCTION
Building inspectors are professionals responsible for ensuring that construction projects comply with local and state building codes and regulations. The primary role of building inspectors is to assess the safety, quality and adherence to design specifications of buildings and structures. They have other responsibilities which they carry out. Some of these responsibilities include;
- Building inspectors verify that projects meet applicable building codes, safety regulations and zoning laws.
- They conduct inspections at various stages of construction which may include foundation, framing and electrical, plumbing and final inspections. They do this to ensure developers put up exactly what is on their permit.

- If violations are found, inspectors have the authority to enforce compliance by issuing citations or stop-work orders.

Many strategies can be developed to raise money from the activities of building inspectors. Some of these strategies are;
- Their core mandate is to make sure developers with no proper permits for their structures do so. The building inspectors ensure that those who do not possess a permit come to the Assembly and acquire their permit.
- Carrying out demolition exercises. Developers who put up buildings in unauthorized zones are liable to having their structures demolished. Building inspectors will carry out the demolition exercise and the developer will be charged a fee for the demolition.
- Squatters who encroach on Assembly land will be evicted by the building inspectors and the space will be used for recreational activities. The space can be used to host events of many kind and this can help generate money for the Assembly.
- Building inspectors also gather data on structures that are liable to pay penalties as part of their permit fee.
In the 2nd quarter as well, 160 unauthorized developers were summoned and 122 reported with their documents. Out of the 122 that reported, 102 have been permitted by the Assembly to carry on with their construction. They are also being regularly supervised by the Assembly.
