The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA) on 4th August 2026 officially launched the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund 2.0. The youth Climate Action is an initiative targeted at empowering young people to take lead in tackling climate change within their communities.
Under the initiative, young people between the ages of 15 and 24 will receive micro-grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to implement innovative climate projects. The Assembly was selected together with 300 cities worldwide to implement the initiative.

The launch event was attended by the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Heads of Department/Units, staff of KKMA, headteachers, chairpersons of sub-committees, the media, among others.

In his welcome address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of KKMA, Hon. Samuel T. K. Morton appealed to young people across the Municipality to take advantage of the opportunity to turn their ideas into practical solutions that will benefit their communities.

He explained that the initiative is opened to individuals, schools, youth groups and community groups. Hon. Morton added that the launch event marks a significant step in KKMA’s commitment to climate resilience and youth empowerment.

Madam Zubaida Damango, a Development Planning Officer at KKMA encouraged youth organizations, individuals, school clubs, NGOs, and environmental clubs to submit innovative proposals that is expected to create lasting environmental impact before the closing date. She noted that project may focus on waste recycling, community clean-up exercises, water conservation, tree planting, ecosystem restoration, flood prevention, among others. Mad. Zubaida said application forms were available at the KKMA website, the Municipal Development Planning Unit and on social media platforms.
Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and offer suggestions. The Information Services Department (ISD), the NCCE, media and participants at the program were tasked to assist in disseminating the program to the general public.
